英語では「〜が（ある場合に）存在する / 〜がある」というとき、there is（単数形）や there are（複数形）を使います。

単数形・複数形は、後は続く名詞によって使い分けます。

There is + 名詞の単数形・There are + 名詞の複数形

ここでも日本語にはあまり概念がない「単数」「複数」がポイントとなってきますね。
