Let’s と Why Don’t
Day16では、「~しませんか」を意味するLet’sとWhy don’tを紹介します。
Let’sはgoを伴いカタカナでレッツゴーともいいますよね。
Let’s、Why don’t、そしてこの日のレッスンには出てきていませんがShall we(シャルウィーダンスのShall weですね)はすべて、「~しようよ」「~しませんか」という意味ですが、少しずつニュアンスが違います。
「Let’s ~」は「~やろう!」(相手の意思を尊重しているが、少しくだけた感じ)
「Shall we ~」は「~しませんか?」(相手の意思を尊重していて、丁寧な感じ)
「Why don’t we ~」は「~やろうよ!」(自分の意志が強調される感じ)
ニュアンスが少し違うので上手く使い分けましょうね。
