It’s Friday and I have the afternoon off. Sometimes there are free concerts in Central Park during the summer, so I’ll look for one this afternoon.
Belle: Who’s singing?
Woman: I don’t know, but she sure has an amazing voice.
Belle: Yes, she sings very well.
Woman: Her dancing is wonderful, too.
Belle: She moves so quickly!
What will Belle do this afternoon?

どのように?の度合いを表す副詞
Day12 では、どのように?(様態)を表す副詞を紹介します。Day11では頻度を表す副詞を学びましたね。
副詞とは、名詞以外を修飾する詞(ことば)です。名詞以外を修飾するわけですから、動詞のみならず、形容詞や副詞、場合によっては文全体を修飾します。そのためその意味もまた多種多様です。なお、形容詞は名詞を修飾しますが、その形容詞の語尾にlyをつけて副詞にすれば、名詞以外を修飾することができるので、以下の例文のように表現の幅を広げることができます。
speak(話す) | carefully(注意深く)、slowly(静かに)、fluently(流暢に) |
dance(踊る) | well(上手に)、pooly(badly)(下手に)、 |
explain(説明する) | Clearly(はっきりと)、 kindly(親切に) |
例えば、上記の例を使えば
例: She is a good dancer. 彼女は良いダンサーだ
例: She dances well. 彼女は上手にダンスを踊ります。
はじめの例文ではgoodという形容詞+名詞で「彼女は良いダンサーだ」と伝えていましたが、これを、副詞を使う場合はdances wellと動詞+副詞で表現します。
