Hey there! My life has been a rollercoaster, and I would love to share it with you.
My full name is Maya Karasawa, but you can just simply call me Maya.
Yep, I know. It’s too short and simple, but I love it!
A little trivia about my name: it was derived from a bird in the Philippines called “ibong maya,” or, in English, a sparrow.
Why? Well, the short story is that one day my dad saw a bird, and he thought it was cute.
He asked my mom what the name of the bird was, and there you have it. The rest is history as they say.
こんにちは！ジェットコースターのような私の人生についてお話し出来たらと思います。
フルネームはMaya Karasawaですが、Maya（マヤ）と呼んでくださいね。
そうなんです。短かくてシンプルですが、とても気に入っています！
私の名前についてのちょっとした豆知識です。フィリピンでは「ibong maya（イボン マヤ）」、英語ではスズメと呼ばれる鳥に由来しています。
なぜ？簡単に説明すると、ある日、父がその鳥を見て、かわいいと思ったそうです。
父は母にその鳥の（フィリピン語の）名前を尋ねたそうなの。で、そうなったの、そういうことなんですよ。

So yeah, I was born in Japan but was raised in the Philippines.
I grew up in a small city in ラグナ near Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
Laguna is all about lush landscapes, serene lakes, and some delicious food you can’t imagine.
そしてね、私は日本で生まれてフィリピンで育ちました。
フィリピンの首都マニラ近郊のラグナという小さな街で育ちました。
ラグナには、緑豊かな風景、静かな湖、そして想像を絶するおいしい食べ物の全てがあるんです。

The Philippines is known for a lot of famous delicacies like adobo, sinigang, isaw, and of course, the most famous balut of the Philippines!
It’sa fertilized duck egg boiled and eaten in the shell while still warm.
They said that it’s so tasty, I have never tried it even once though because I’m scared!
But most foreigners I know who gave it a try liked it, so I don’t know, maybe you will too.
After all, we have different preferences for delicacies.
フィリピンは、最も有名なバロットはもちろんのこと、アドボ、シニガン、イソーなどのたくさんの有名な料理で知られています！
バロットはアヒルの有精卵を茹でて、温かいうちに殻ごと食べるの。
とても美味しいと聞くけど、私は怖くて一度も食べたことがないです！
でも、私の知り合いの多くの外国人が試して気に入ったと言っているので、試してみてもいいかも知れません。
結局のところ、食べ物の好みは人それぞれですものね。

In my free time, you can often find me dancing to the rhythm of life.
Dance has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
Whether it’s traditional Filipino dances or modern moves, I love to groove to the music.
But that’s not all – I’m also a guitar enthusiast.
Strumming the strings and creating melodies is my way of unwinding and expressing myself before. However, both dancing and playing guitar have taken the back seat for me these days due to my busy schedule.
ダンスが趣味で、いつでも自分のそばにあるのよ。
物心がついた時からダンスに夢中でした。
フィリピンの伝統舞踊でも、今流行りのダンスでも、音楽に合わせてグルーヴするのが大好きなの。
それにね、ギターを弾くのも大好き。
弦をかき鳴らし、メロディーを創り出すことが、リラックスして自分を表現する方法だったわ。
でも、最近は忙しくて、ダンスもギターも後回しになっています。

I’m a big fan of Western movies and series so most of my free time, I watch a lot of it.
I also love to cook sometimes.
Discovering new flavors and experimenting in the kitchen is a fantastic way for me to unwind.
洋画や洋画のシリーズ物の大ファンなので、暇さえあれば映画を観ているわ。
時々料理も楽しんでいます。
新しい味を発見したり、キッチンであれこれ試したりすることで、とってもリラックス出来るのよ。

After college, I felt a strong pull to reconnect with my Japanese roots. So, I journeyed back to Japan.
It was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to better understand my heritage, the country, and its culture.
Now, I’m studying Japanese, so I know firsthand the challenges of learning a new language.
It’s an exciting, albeit sometimes tricky, journey that I’m happy to share with you.
大学を卒業した後、日本のルーツとの強いつながりを感じ、日本に戻ることにしたのです。
自分のルーツ、日本という国、そしてその文化をより深く理解することが出来て、目からウロコの経験でした。
今、日本語を勉強中なので、新しい言語を学ぶことの難しさを身をもって知っています。
学ぶことで、ワクワクしたり、時には難しいこともありますが、皆さんも同じ気持ちだと思うと嬉しいです。
