It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of September.
Time has been flying by lately, hasn’t it?
This month, I thought I would share some stories from my hometown, San Diego.

もう9月が終わりなんて信じられませんね。最近、時間があっという間に過ぎていきますよね？
今月は、故郷のサンディエゴについて少しお話ししようと思います。

The weather in San Diego is sunny and consistent for 300 of 365 days.
In other words, the weather hardly changes, making it easy to enjoy and live. There are almost no natural disasters, too.
The “worst” weather in San Diego is probably rain.
On the rare occasion that it rains, the hills and surrounding area seem to turn greener. I guess the plants must be happy.
But, most people forget how to drive (a joke commonly shared among people from California).
サンディエゴの天気は、365日のうち300日が晴れで安定しています。
つまり、天候の変化が少なく、快適に過ごしやすいのです。自然災害もほとんどありません。
サンディエゴで「最悪の天気」といえば、たぶん雨でしょう。
めったに降らない雨が降ると、丘や周辺の景色が緑に覆われていくようです。きっと植物たちは喜んでいるのでしょうね。
でも、雨の日にどう運転するのかを忘れてしまう人が多いんです（カリフォルニアの人たちの間でよく言われるジョークです、笑）。

Due to its proximity to the ocean, San Diego is famous for its beaches.
Located in the southwest corner of California, San Diego has many beautiful beaches and ocean views.
サンディエゴは海に近いことから、ビーチで有名です。
カリフォルニア州の南西端に位置するサンディエゴには、美しいビーチや海を見渡せる眺めのいい場所がたくさんあります。

In northern San Diego, Del Mar and La Jolla are not only known for beautiful sand and the silly sea lions on the shore (try saying that 5 times fast haha), but also a plethora of excellent restaurants.
Further south, some beaches have equipment for rent to try wakeboarding, paddle boarding, and, of course, surfing!
Don’t forget a wetsuit, though, because the water is still freezing even in the shining sun.
In all seasons, there are some incredible hiking spots with great views of the ocean.
サンディエゴの北部にあるデル・マーやラ・ホヤは、美しい砂浜や海岸にいるかわいいアシカたち（早口で5回言ってみてください、笑）だけでなく、評判の良いレストランがたくさんあります。
さらに南に行くと、サーフィンはもちろんのこと、ウェイクボードやパドルボードの器具をレンタルできるビーチもあります！
ただし、太陽が輝いていても、水はまだ冷たいので、ウェットスーツを忘れないでくださいね。
季節を問わず、海を一望できる素晴らしいハイキングスポットもありますよ。

Perhaps the thing I miss most about San Diego is the food!
There are so many delicious dining options around town, and new shops are opening every week.
For a while there, it seemed like some shops opened just as I was leaving town, as if to spite me… But I digress!
サンディエゴで一番恋しいのは、食べ物かもしれません！
街にはおいしい飲食店がたくさんあり、新しい店が毎週オープンしています。
私がしばらく街を離れると、ちょうどそのタイミングで新しい店がオープンしているようで、まるで嫌がらせのようでした…話が逸れちゃった！

Because Mexico is a quick 30 minute drive away, San Diego has incredibly delicious Mexican food.
Personally, my favorites include a Vietnamese diner, a Thai place that exclusively does take out, and a Filipino restaurant with the most comforting atmosphere — see pictures below.
I could talk about the dessert places for hours…
メキシコまで車で30分と近いので、サンディエゴでは本当においしいメキシコ料理が食べられています。
私はベトナム料理のダイナー、テイクアウト専門のタイ料理のお店、そしてとても居心地の良い雰囲気のフィリピン料理のレストランが大好きです。

Growing up in San Diego was, in one word, peaceful!
I grew up in the suburbs, about a 30 minute drive from downtown San Diego and the beach.
On the weekends, I would play flute in a youth symphony orchestra, explore Balboa Park, and meet my friends.
After graduating high school, I even went to college in San Diego, too.
If you ever have the chance to visit, I hope you’ll be able to enjoy the sunny weather, sandy beaches, and peaceful atmosphere.
サンディエゴで育ったことをひと言で表すと「平和」でした。
私はサンディエゴの中心部やビーチから車で30分ほどの郊外に住んでいました。
週末には、青少年交響楽団でフルートを演奏したり、バルボアパークに遊びに行ったり、友達と会ったりして過ごしました。
高校卒業後もサンディエゴにある大学に進学しました。
サンディエゴに行かれる際には、素晴らしいお天気とビーチ、そして幸せな気分になれる雰囲気を満喫してくださいね。
