I don’t think I ever expected to be living in Japan in the future, yet here I am.
My life in Barcelona was pretty much settled, I already had had my short experience abroad, finishing my degree at the university in Stuttgart, Germany.
That was in 2012 and by that time my boyfriend refused to even think about the idea of living abroad.
When I was back from Germany, we moved in together.
This was the flat we lived in in Mataró, in the coast north from Barcelona.
将来日本に住むなんて、まったく予想していなかったけど、今こうしてここにいます。
バルセロナでの生活はかなり落ち着いていたし、ドイツのシュトゥットガルトの大学を卒業したので、短期間だけど海外生活は経験済みでした。
それが2012年のことで、その頃ボーイフレンドは海外での生活なんて考えたくもないって言ってたんです。
ドイツから戻ってきた後、私たちは一緒に住み始めました。
これが、バルセロナの北にある海沿いの町マタローで住んでいたアパートの写真です。

The coast is so beautiful over there, there are nice white beaches all along the coast, and Mataró is no different.
In the picture below you can see how it looks like over there.
その地域の海岸は本当に美しく、ずっと白い砂浜が続いていて、マタローも例外ではありません。

I used to spend lots of afternoons there in the summer, after work, drinking some cocktails, eating some “tapas” with friends in one of the many beach stalls, or even enjoying a paella with my family in the weekends (picture below).
夏の午後には、仕事帰りに友達と一緒にビーチの屋台でカクテルを飲んだり、「タパス」を食べたり、週末には家族と一緒に美味しいパエリアを楽しんだりして、海でたくさんの時間を過ごしていました。（下の写真を見てね）。

“Tapas” are a typical food from Spain, they consist of small (or not so small) portions of food served with a drink, typically seafood, cooked potatoes with a spicy sauce “patatas bravas”, a platter of cheese, etc.
「タパス」はスペインの代表的な料理で、飲み物と一緒に出される小皿料理のことです。
典型的なものとしては、シーフード、スパイシーなソースがかかったポテト料理の「パタタス・ブラバス」やチーズの盛り合わせなどがあります。

So, if you ask me what I would likely be doing right now if I still was in Barcelona, that would probably be it.
But I have plenty of other hobbies, so I might as well be on a trip to some place around the world, gardening, playing padel, watching a movie or hiking in the mountains. That’s me, by the way!
だから、もし今もバルセロナにいたら、何をしていると思う？と聞かれたら、たぶんその頃と同じことをしていると思います。 でも、他にもたくさん趣味があるので、世界中を旅行したり、ガーデニングや、パデル（テニスとスカッシュを合わせたようなラケット競技）をしたり、映画を観たり、山歩きを楽しんでいるでしょう。そんな私です！

How did I end up in Japan, then?
Well, around the time me and my boyfriend got married, we were both engineers with fairly good jobs, I myself was working for a Spanish car company, and my husband decided he wanted to quit his job at the industry and dedicate his efforts to being a futsal coach, so he would be happier doing what he’d always dreamed of.
After some time, he told me he wanted to become a professional futsal coach, and that going abroad would help him achieve that.
I did not think about it for even a second.
A year after, we found ourselves living in Odawara! And that is a story I will tell you another time.
結局どうして日本に来ることになったかというと…
実は、私たちが結婚した頃、私も夫もエンジニアとしてかなり良い仕事をしていました。私はスペインの自動車会社で働いていて、夫はずっと夢見ていたフットサルのコーチとしてのキャリアを追求するため、今の仕事を辞めたいと言い出しました。
しばらくして、彼はプロのフットサルコーチになりたいと言い、海外に行くことがその夢を叶えるための助けになると話しました。
私は迷うことなく賛成しました。
そして1年後、私たちは小田原で暮らすことになったのです！この続きはまた今度お話ししますね。
