I have liked music since I was a kid, but I never took any music lessons.
So last year I decided to start learning to play the guitar!
I guess some of you are interested in guitar too, so today let’s have a brief introduction to the world of guitars.
子どもの頃から音楽が好きでしたが、習ったことはなかったんです。
遂に昨年、ギターを習うことに決めました！
ギターに興味がある方もいると思うので、今回は少しだけギターの世界をご紹介しますね！

Introduction to Guitar-ギターについて

◆Types Of Guitars-ギターの種類◆

Generally speaking, there are 2 kinds of guitars : acoustic guitars and electric guitars.
The acoustic guitar has a hollow body and the sound comes out from the sound hole.
So it is lighter than the electric guitar, and it is more convenient because you don’t need anything else.
You can hear the acoustic guitar in many different kinds of music, from classical to folk, pop, jazz, and even rock music.
一般的には、ギターはアコースティックギターとエレクトリックギターの2種類があります。
アコースティックギターの中は空洞で、音はサウンドホール（ボディのトップに空けられた穴）から出てきます。
だからアコースティックギターは他に何もいらないし、エレクトリックギターよりも軽くて手軽なんです。
クラシックからフォーク、ポップ、ジャズ、さらにはロックミュージックなど、様々なジャンルの音楽で聴くことが出来ます。

On the other hand, the electric guitar has a solid body.
So it is a lot heavier than the acoustic guitar.
Since it doesn’t have a sound hole, we need to connect the electric guitar to an amplifier (many people just call it an “amp”).
The electric guitar is very common for rock and metal music, but you can often hear it in pop music too.
一方、エレクトリックギターは頑丈な作りになっています。
なので、アコースティックギターよりもかなり重いです。
サウンドホールがないのでアンプリファイアに接続する必要があります(多くの人が略して“アンプ”と呼んでいます)。
エレクトリックギターはロックやメタルミュージックが一般的ですが、ポップミュージックでもよく使われていますね。

◆How To Play The Guitar-ギターの弾き方◆

We can play the guitar sitting down or standing up.
We use our left hand fingertips to press the strings, and we use our right hand to strum or play the strings.
Sometimes we only use our right hand fingers to play, and sometimes we can use a pick.
ギターは立ってでも座ってでも弾くことが出来ます。
左手の指先で弦を押さえて、右手で弦をかき鳴らしたり弾いたり、時には右手だけを使って弾いたり、ピックを使って弾いたりもします。

◆My Thoughts On Learning The Guitar-ギターを習ってみて◆

Although learning to play the guitar is difficult, it is also a lot of fun!
Like studying English, learning the guitar needs a lot of practices.
Sometimes my fingertips hurt so bad, I have to take a day off from practicing.
But I guess the most important thing is to be patient, and don’t give up!
I like both Western and Japanese music.
Some of my favorite Japanese artists are Sheena Ringo, Love Psychedelico, Utada Hikaru, and Yonezu Kenshi.
My goal is to play one of Sheena Ringo’s songs on the guitar!

ギターを弾くことは難しいですが、とっても楽しいです！
英語の勉強のように、ギターもたくさんの練習が必要です。
たまに指先がすごく痛くなってしまって練習を休まないといけない時もあったりします。
一番重要なのは忍耐強く、諦めないことだと思います！
私は洋楽と日本の音楽が好きです。
日本だと椎名林檎、LOVE PSYCHEDELICO、宇多田ヒカル、それと米津玄師です。
私の目標はギターで椎名林檎を弾くこと！
