As the noise of the train faded as it went off into the distance,
I could hear the exclamations “samui ne”± from other recently alighted passengers
as I made my way to the ticket gate. I agreed! …
it was about -1 and did not get much above that all day!!
遠方から出発した列車の騒音が弱まってきたので、改札ゲートへと並んでいたとき
先に新幹線を降りた乗客者から僕は「寒いね！」と声が聞こえた。
それには同感だった！　
気温はマイナス１度で一日いることに耐えられなかったよ！！



Snow was piled up at the side of the road; a bitter wind blew from
the mountains whipping the light snow up into the air, there was a growl with
every passing car as the chained tyres made contact with the road.
雪は道路の端に積み上げられていた；風の中に小さな雪が混ざっている山々からの風も吹き
道路に足跡をつけたチェーン付きのタイヤの車が通る度に風がうなっていた。

I walked down some snowy country roads past large summer houses and
estates, it was very peaceful.
僕は大きな別荘や団地（私有地）を通り、田舎の雪道を歩き、とっても穏やかだったよ。

After a while I came to a lively shopping area, I stopped in a delicatessen
to look at the local produce and warm up.
賑わうショッピングエリアに着いた後、僕は現地産の商品をみたり、ちょっと体を温めるため
食料品屋に立ち寄ったよ。

Soon after entering, I was given some delicious sweet ginger tea by the gentlemanly manager.
I liked the tea so much that I decided to buy some, as well as some wine,
much to the shopkeepers delight.
お店にはいるとすぐ、紳士なマネージャーさんがおいしそうな甘いジンジャーティーをくれたよ。
店主にとっても喜ばしいことに、僕はそれがとても気に入って買うことに決めたんだ、あとワインもね。

After all this walking it was time for some lunch,
so I visited a local restaurant and had the Nagano mountain vegetable miso udon soup.
Perhaps, the longest named soup in the world. Anyway, it was delicious and
I would highly recommend it!! (^__^)
色々歩き回った後に、ランチの時間になったんだ、だからローカルレストランに行き、
長野山で取れた味噌煮込みうどんを食べたよ。
たぶん世界で一番長い名前のうどんだと思うよ。とにかくとてもおいしかったし、
かなりおすすめだよ！(^__^)

Next, I wanted to travel to Mt. Asama but due to the snow
it was difficult as bus operations had been suspended. As there was no getting up close,
I wanted at least a good picture from a distance, so I did my bit to support
the local economy and boarded the very local Shinano Line train for Nagano City.
次に僕は浅間山に行きたかったんだけど、雪のためにバスの運行が止まってしまったので
行くのが難しくなってしまったのだよ。もう山には近づくことができなかったので
僕はせめて遠くからGoodな写真を撮りたかったから地域経済の支援に一役買い、
長野市からとってもローカルな信濃線の電車に乗ったよ。



I got off at Shinano Oiwake, a couple of stations down the line,
to do some walking and get some views of the mountain.
I then headed back to Karuizawa to watch skiers and
snowboarders showing off their skills before briefly looking around
the mammoth Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza.
僕は、いくつかの駅をまっすぐ過ぎた所に、少し歩き、
山の景色を見るため信濃の追分で降りよ。
そしてマンモス級に大きい軽井沢プリンスショッピングプラザちょっと見る前に
スキーヤーやスノーボーダー達のスキルを見るために軽井沢に戻ってきたよ。

The sun set, the temperature plummeted, and it was time to go home.
日が暮れて、気温は急激な下がったので、もう帰る時間になったよ。


I boarded the Shinkansen and returned to Tokyo.
The satellite cities and suburbs flashing past like one large display of Christmas illuminations.
僕は新幹線に乗り、東京に戻った。
衛星都市と郊外の（夜景）が大きなクリスマスイルミネーションのディスプレイのように過ぎてった。

It was a good day out and it was good to ride the Shinkansen again.
Remember Christmas comes but once a year … so enjoy.
お出かけにはとっても良い日でまた新幹線に乗れたのは良かったよ。
覚えておいてね、クリスマスは来るけども一年に一回だけ…　だから楽しもう。
