皆さん、こんにちは！

My name is Ben and I’m from Wales.
Do you know where that is?

Well done!
It’s in the UK, next to England (I hope you got that right…).
I grew up in the countryside with my brother and sister, and our house was surrounded by fields, mountains and many sheep (do you like sheep?).
It rains a lot in Wales, but it’s a very green and beautiful country with many castles and friendly people.
When the Rugby World Cup comes to Japan, I’m sure many Welsh people will come, so get ready to talk to them!
7月よりbに仲間入りしたウェールズ出身のベンです。
ウェールズってどこか分かりますか？

そうです！
ウェールズはイギリスを構成する4つの国の1つでイングランドの隣に位置します。
自然に囲まれた田舎町で兄妹と育ちました。ひつじもたくさんいますよ！（ひつじは好きですか？）
ウェールズは、雨がたくさん降りますが、緑が多く、歴史的なお城がたくさんあります。フレンドリーな人々も多いのでとても魅力的な国ですよ。
ラグビーの世界大会が日本で開催される際には、きっとたくさんのウェールズ人が日本へやってきます。その時までに英語の準備をしておいてくださいね！

I first came to Japan on holiday several years ago to see a friend.
I had a wonderful time and found Japan completely engrossing.
I decided I wanted to come back and live here, so I did! I taught English for a year in Yokohama, while living in Kamata.
I met many people during that year and tried to experience as much of the culture as I could.
I travelled to Nikko, Tottori, Hiroshima, Osaka, Kamakura, Kyoto among others.
I saw fireworks and watched a Sumo tournament, I explored the streets of Tokyo and visited the rural side of Japan.
数年前、友人に会うために初めて日本を訪れ、完全に日本に心を奪われました。
また日本に戻ってきて住みたいと思い、願いを叶えました！
蒲田に住み横浜で1年間英語の講師を経験しました。
その間、日本のいろんな文化に触れようと思い、日光、鳥取、広島、大阪、鎌倉や京都などたくさんの場所を訪れました。
花火も相撲も見に行きました。

I could only stay one year at the time, since I was on a working holiday visa.
So I returned to Wales, with all my bags on my back, and wondered what I was going to do next.
I’d met and fallen in love with a girl while I was in Japan, and I was surprised and glad to find out she wanted to come to the UK to study English!
We made a plan to live together in London from the Autumn.
So began our London adventure.
I got a job woking as a crew member for various events around London, building stages, unloading trucks, and helping carry many heavy things! (You’d be surprised how much equipment is needed for a single concert!).
And my girlfriend started her English studies.
Because we both didn’t have much money, we stayed in a house-share with many people, it was a little crazy!
There were Bulgarian roofers and Greek electricians and a Russian landlady with a little cat called Max.
Max would sometimes outside our window at night and wake us up with his yowling!
当時はワーキングホリデーのビザだったため1年間しか滞在できず、ウェールズに帰ることになりました。
次は何をしようかと悩んでいる時、日本に滞在している間に出会った日本人女性がちょうどイギリスに来て英語を勉強したいと言っていたため一緒にロンドンで住むことを決めました。
ロンドンでは、イベント関係の仕事に就き、ステージの設営やトラックから荷下ろしなどを担当しました。1つのコンサートにどれほど多くの機材が必要か、きっと驚きますよ！
当時、私たちはあまりお金が無かったためシェアハウスに住んでいました。
屋根職人のブルガリア人、電気技師のギリシャ人、家主のロシア人女性とマックスという小さな猫がいました。
ときどき夜中にマックスが屋根に上って鳴くのでそのたびに起こされていました。

Because my girlfriends student visa was coming to an end, and we were unsure of the future, I decided to ask her to marry me.
She said yes and we got married in Japan last March. It was a strange ceremony, in the morning Japanese style, in the afternoon Western style.
My family came over to Japan for it (for everyone except my brother it was their first time) and they enjoyed their time here.
I got a job teaching English again, which is how I came to B!
I’m hoping to stay in Japan for a long time, and in my spare time I like to study Japanese (though I’m still very bad…sorry Japan…).
I also love to hike the mountains here and I’m interested in music, I had a band in London but had to leave it when I came to Japan, now I’m looking for a new band.
彼女のビザが切れるタイミングでプロポーズをし、今年の3月、日本で彼女と結婚しました。
午前中は神前式、午後は披露宴という日本の結婚式のスタイルには驚きました。
私の家族も結婚式のために日本へ来てくれて、とても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。
bに仲間入りした今、空き時間を利用して日本語の勉強をしています。
ハイキングや音楽も好きです。
実はロンドンにいた時、バンドに参加していたんですよ！日本でもバンドに入りたいな。

I’m a big fan of Japanese cuisine, especially Ramen, I could eat it every day.
I tried making it at home the other day, I was surprised how long it took!
I’ve started an online blog recently to chart my progress with Japanese cooking.
It helps me remember how to make the dishes and is fun at the same time.
日本食も大好きです。特にラーメンは毎日食べたいくらいです。
先日自宅でラーメン作りに挑戦したのですが思っていたより時間がかかりびっくりしました。
最近は、自分が作った日本料理をブログに残すようにしています。楽しいですし、より記憶にも残るので一石二鳥です。

I think you should visit London once in your life.
And if you go to London, why not visit Wales too! It’s not far by train! (and it’s cheaper too…).

I’m looking forward to my time here at B and can’t wait to meet many students and help with their English.
