Since moving to Japan over 8 years ago, I had lived in Tokyo until last December when I finally moved out of Tokyo proper.
I moved to Kawasaki – specifically, the Kawasaki Station area – and a lot of people asked me, why Kawasaki?
8年前に日本に移住してから昨年12月までずっと住んでいた東京を出て、ついに引っ越しをしました。　
川崎に移り住みました（川崎駅周辺です）　たくさんの人に、なぜ川崎？と聞かれます。

Most people don’t have a good image of Kawasaki, whether it’s the distance; the factories and air pollution (now, sort of a thing of the past); or the notoriety for its brothels.
When I first visited Kawasaki years ago though, I was going in fresh with a clean slate – no pre-conceived notions to taint my judgement of what would eventually become one of my favorite places in the greater Tokyo area.
距離（都心からの）、工場地帯の空気汚染（今となっては過去の話ですが）、売春宿の悪い評判などから、川崎に対してあまり良いイメージを持っていない人が多いです。　
でも僕が数年前初めて川崎を訪れた時は、白紙の状態で新鮮な気持ちで行ったので、偏見を持った先入観もなく、その後川崎は東京エリアでお気に入りの場所となったのでした。

So let me tell you why the Kawasaki Station area is great… for me, at least. As you may know, I’m from L.A.
And you may also know that I’m very into worldly things – I majored in International Relations and love traveling and exploring cities throughout the world.
Well, there are many things in Kawasaki that remind me of either LA or even of some place in the world.
Take La Citadella, for example…
さて、なぜ川崎駅周辺が素晴らしいのか（少なくとも僕にとっては・・・）をお話させて下さい。ご存知かもしれませんが、僕はL.A.出身です。
そしてこれもご存知かもしれませんが、僕は世の中についてとても興味があります。 僕は国際関係を専攻し、世界中を旅しながら街を探索するのが大好きです。　
川崎にはL.A.や世界各国の地を思わせるような場所がたくさんあります。
ラ・チッタデッラを例にあげてみましょう・・・

… a fake, urban commercial wonderland providing us with our very own little Italy. As cheesy, as this place may be, I love it – it’s just like home, where we have places like Universal City Walk (pictured below). Here at La Citadella, there’s a Salvatore Cuomo which has a very modern Cali atmosphere, especially because of the music they play. There’s also a Village Vanguard, which is one of my favorite shops in Japan! If you’ve never been to Village Vanguard, you really should go sometime! Of course, the LED-laden modern take on the Tower of Pisa is absolutely astounding!
小さいイタリアにみせかけた、都会的でワンダーランドのような商業施設です。　（フェイクイタリアなので）安っぽいと思われてしまうかもしれないですが、僕は大好きです。　ユニバーサルシティーウォークという場所がある、僕のホームタウンのようです。（下記写真）　ラ・チッタデッラには、現代のカリフォルニアの雰囲気（特に音楽）を感じられる、サルバトーレ・クオモがあります。　また、僕の日本でのお気に入りショップのひとつ、ビレッジバンガードもあるんです！　もしビレッジバンガードに行ったことが無い方は、是非行ってみてください！ もちろん、LEDで装飾されたピサの斜塔をイメージしたようなタワーもものすごく驚異的ですよ！

From what I’ve been told, the area around Kawasaki Station used to have lots of factories and thus, air pollution.
Toshiba used to have a factory just outside the west exit of the station!
Toshiba was eventually replaced with one of the best station shopping malls around – Lazona.
Those who know me, know I’m really not into shopping. Lazona isn’t just for shopping though… there are kids playing in the plaza everyday; there are popular and free concerts once in a while; sometimes I just go there, have a seat in the plaza and enjoy the fresh air.
The design and architecture of Lazona give it a clean and fresh oceanside feel – I really love the boardwalk floors.
川崎エリアは以前たくさんの工場があって、空気も汚染されていたと、良く聞きます。　
東芝の工場が駅の西口を出たすぐのところにあったそうですね！　
その後東芝の工場があった場所は、駅周辺にある人気のショッピングモールの中のひとつである、ラゾーナになりました。　
僕のことを知っている方々は、僕がショッピング好きではないことをご存知と思います。　
でもラゾーナはただショッピングのためだけではなく、広場では毎日子供が遊んでいて、定期的に無料で観られる人気のコンサートが開催されます。　
また僕は時々、目的もなくただ広場へ行ってベンチに座り、新鮮な空気を楽しむこともあります。　
ラゾーナのデザインや建物は、オーシャンサイドのような綺麗で新鮮な空気を感じることができます。僕はボードウォーク（板でできた道）のフロアが大好きです。

Speaking of great design and architecture, just next to Lazona is Muza – a state-of-the-art symphony hall. I haven’t been inside yet but it looks awesome!
Seeing Ryuichi Sakamoto perform there would be perfect!
素敵なデザインと建物といえば、ラゾーナの隣にはミューザ（最新式のシンフォニーホール）があります。 中に入ったことはないけれど、かなりすごそうです！　
坂本龍一の演奏をそこで観れたら最高だと思います！

So there’s Muza, Lazona… and then there’s also Azalea! What’s with all the Zs?
Now, as I mentioned… there are certain things in Kawasaki that remind me of other places in the world. I’ve already talked about La Citadella and the Tower of Pisa. Well, even closer to the station is a commercial area called Le Front and it totally reminds me of Le Defense in Paris!
ミューザもあってラゾーナもあって・・・あとアゼリアもあります！なんで全部Z繋がりなんでしょう？
さて、先程書いたように、川崎には海外を思いださせるような特徴のある物があります。
ラ・チッタデッラとピサの斜塔についてはもう書きましたが、もっと駅の近くにルフロンという商業施設があり、完全にパリの凱旋門を思いださせてくれます。

Of course, there are so many great places for food, drinks and entertainment all over Tokyo but most of my favorites are around Kawasaki Station. Torikizoku is one of my favorite izakayas and around Kawasaki Station, there are two.
もちろん、東京のいたるところに食事やお酒が美味しいお店や、素晴らしいエンターテイメント施設がありますが、僕のお気に入りたちは川崎駅に集結しています。　
鳥貴族が僕のお気に入りの居酒屋で、川崎駅周辺には2つあります。

There’s both a Bic Camera and a Yodobashi Camera.
There are 3 movie theaters; 4 Starbucks (that I know of); and 1 Hub (foreigner-friendly British pub).
There’s also a Genki Sushi – my favorite kaiten sushi restaurant in Tokyo!
ビックカメラとヨドバシカメラが両方共あります。　
映画館は3つ、スターバックスは4つ（僕が知るかぎりでは）、そしてハブが1つ（外国人にフレンドリーなブリティッシュパブ）あります。　
東京にあるお気に入りの回転寿司の、元気寿司だってあります。

So yes, in Kawasaki Station area, we have a little bit of Italy, a little bit of France, a little bit of L.A. (perhaps even a little bit of Amsterdam) and just about everything Tokyo in general has to offer. If you’re one of the many who think Kawasaki is an awful place, I invite you to challenge this prejudice and see how nice the new Kawasaki really is – or can be,if you allow yourself to see it!
ですから、川崎駅周辺には、少しのイタリアと、少しのフランスと、少しのL.A.（もしくはアムステルダムかも）、そして東京に欠かせないものがほぼ全て揃っています。　もし、あなたが多くの人のように川崎をよく思っていない方なら、その悪い先入観を克服するために川崎に招待し、川崎の素晴らしさを見てもらいたいです。　あなたの目にどのように映るかはあなた次第ですけどね！
